About

The BIG Step-by-Step in brief

The BIG Step-by-Step is a sequential recorded-message AAC speech device that allows a user to move through a series of messages using repeated presses of the same large activation surface. The first press plays the first message, the next press plays the next message, and so on through the recorded sequence. Up to three sets of message sequences can be prepared in advance using its levels, making it useful for storytelling, counting, scripted social exchanges, asking a series of questions and participating in multi-step classroom or therapy activities. It also includes a clear symbol snap cover and can add communication to a switch-controlled toy or appliance.

Key features

Why teams choose the BIG Step-by-Step

Sequential multi-message communication

Each activation plays the next recorded message in a sequence, allowing one large activation surface to support a series of spoken contributions.

Three levels for prepared sequences

Use the levels to pre-record up to three different sets of message sequences so communication can be prepared for different activities.

Clear symbol snap cover

A clear snap cover can hold a picture symbol to provide visual context for the activity or communication sequence.

Toy and appliance output

Use the BIG Step-by-Step to pair sequential spoken messages with activation of a compatible switch-controlled toy or appliance.

Who it helps

Is this right for you?

Children and adults who benefit from recorded AAC but need to contribute more than one message during an activity. BIG Step-by-Step is especially useful when a large activation area is helpful and messages need to be delivered in a predictable sequence, such as telling a story, counting, asking questions, giving instructions or taking repeated turns in a group activity.
