ICTE 2023

We were proud to be invited to ICTE 2023, the International Conference on Twice Exceptionality. In the Arab world the conference is an important chance to discuss the barriers talented people with disabilities face in reaching their potential, and how to support them to take a full part in society and work.

Camille Matta spoke on “The Unknown Heroes”, showing how assistive technology can give talented people with disabilities the power to excel, and how they inspire others by doing so.

Our anniversary giveaway winner

On 1 February we announced the winner of our 17th anniversary giveaway. Mrs Ambreen visited our office with her twins, who are autistic and were finding communication hard, for an assistive technology and AAC assessment. Our team chose a QuickTalker FeatherTouch 7 for each twin. In her words: “This means the world to me and the twins.”

We are now in Kuwait

Consort World now has a presence in Kuwait, so we can reach more families and professionals across the region. We marked Kuwait National Day and Liberation Day with a reminder that there are many ways to communicate besides speech, and that AAC can help everyone have a voice.

Training and workshops

On 13 February we met Dr Shaheena Boda at KidsFIRST Medical Center in Abu Dhabi. KidsFIRST provides evidence-based care for children with special needs and learning difficulties, through a team that includes paediatricians, psychologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and social workers.

International Epilepsy Day

International Epilepsy Day fell on 13 February. According to the World Health Organization, epilepsy affects around 50 million people worldwide.
